Xi Jinping is the son of Xi Zhongxun, a former deputy prime minister of China, and his Wife Qi Xin. His father was often out of favor with the party and government, especially during the Cultural Revolution and after he openly criticized the government’s actions during the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident.Despite these challenges, Xi Jinping managed to rise through the rank of the CCP, starting his political career in China’s coastal provinces. He served as the Governor of Fujian between 1999 and 2002 and later as the Governor and CPC party chief of Zhejiang from 2002 to 2007.
In 2007, following a scandal involving Shanghai’s upper leadership, Xi Jinping took over as the city’s party secretary, focusing on promoting stability and rehabilitating the city’s financial image.
