Xi Jinping is the son of Xi Zhongxun, a former deputy prime minister of China, and his Wife Qi Xin. His father was often out of favor with the party and government, especially during the Cultural Revolution and after he openly criticized the government’s actions during the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident.Despite these challenges, Xi Jinping managed to rise through the rank of the CCP, starting his political career in China’s coastal provinces. He served as the Governor of Fujian between 1999 and 2002 and later as the Governor and CPC party chief of Zhejiang from 2002 to 2007.
In 2007, following a scandal involving Shanghai’s upper leadership, Xi Jinping took over as the city’s party secretary, focusing on promoting stability and rehabilitating the city’s financial image. His party line helped him secure a position on the standing committee of the CCP’s Political Bureau, the highest ruling body in the party , in the party in October 2007 This promotion put Hu Jintao, the then general secretary of the CCP and president of the People’s Republic.

Xi Jinping married popular folksinger Peng Liyuan in 1987. They have one daughter, Xi Mingze, who graduated from Harvard University in 2015. In 2018, the National People’s term limits for China’s president and vice president, allowing Xi Jimping to remain in office beyond 2023.
